Gordian was retained by the Board of Directors of United Rentals, Inc., a huge public equipment rental company, to render an opinion, on a relatively short time frame with respect to the fairness to the common stockholders of the consideration being paid to repurchase approximately $680 million of convertible preferred stock from Apollo and J.P. Morgan Partners.
